元寇
元寇とは、鎌倉時代中期の1274年・1281年に、モンゴル帝国(元朝)によって2度にわたり行われた対日本侵攻です。1度目を文永の役、2度目を弘安の役といいます。
元朝は南宋を一緒に攻めるため日本に親書を出し国交を結ぼうとします。鎌倉幕府は五度にわたって拒絶し、1274年元朝が博多に兵を送りました。
集団で戦ったり、爆弾や毒矢を使う戦いをしたので博多は一日で攻め落とされました。
しかし、示威行動が目的だった元軍は一日で引き返しました。
さらに元朝は親書で国交を結ぼうとしましたが鎌倉幕府は拒絶、使者を処刑したので元朝は怒りました。
その後南宋が滅亡し、次は日本の番でした。
しかしながら一度目の攻めの教訓から防塁を作ったり、戦法を変えたり情報収集をして元軍に備えました。
これら日本の準備や暴風雨の為、二度目の侵攻は失敗したようです。
鎌倉にある円覚寺はこの元寇で亡くなった者を元軍を含め弔う目的で作られました。
