名古屋市の東山動植物園は、神戸市の動物園で生まれた2歳のヤブイヌのオス「ヒロマル」が、2024年5月28日に来園すると発表した。
最も原始的な犬と呼ばれるヤブイヌは、南米の森林などに生息し短い手足や小さな耳が特徴的で、長く鋭い爪を使った穴掘りも得意だ。
東山動植物園では、2022年2月から飼育数がゼロとなっていて、ヒロマルの一般公開の日程は体調などを考慮して決めるという。
