山形・天童市の温泉旅館で2013年からネコ女将として親しまれてきた看板ネコ「まいちゃん」の引退式が行われ、多くのファンが別れを惜しんだ。
彼女は猫女将としてSNSを中心に活動し、大地震やコロナ禍など困難な時期でも多くの宿泊客を和ませてきた。
3月で15歳になり人間に例えると80歳を超える高齢で猫女将を引退したまいちゃんは、今後「不定期出勤」で自由気ままに宿泊客を出迎えてくれるという。
