Eニュース2024年8月28日命名サッポロクジラ

2008年に札幌市南区の小金湯で発見されたクジラの化石が、約900万年前のもので、新属新種のセミクジラの一種であることが分かった。
17年にわたる調査の結果、この化石は新属新種のセミクジラであることが、海外の学術誌に発表され、和名はサッポロクジラと名付けられた。
現在、化石の一部は札幌市博物館活動センターで常設展示されているほか、9月12日からは北海道大学総合博物館でも関連展示が行われる予定だ。
