スイスのアッペンツェルインナーローデン準州では毎年4月下旬、15世紀にさかのぼる伝統に従い、町の広場での挙手によって地元の指導者や判事を選出する。
青空議会「ランツゲマインデ」は、ゆったりとした儀礼的な行進の後、何千人もの市民が広場内のロープで区切られた投票エリアに詰めかけた。
広場にて数時間にわたり、市民たちは提示された議題について直接民主主義の伝統にそって投票を行い、この州政府初の女性首長等が選ばれた。
