ビャッコイは福島のこの地区の他はオーストラリア等主に南半球にのみ生える水生植物で、湧き水の環境に生育する。
指定は1万3747平方メートルが対象で、地元有志による保存活動も行われ、学術的にも高い価値があると評価された。
