フランスで、ノルマンディー上陸作戦から80年となる式典が始まり、イギリス国王、フランス大統領等が戦死した兵士らに哀悼の意を示した。
ノルマンディー上陸作戦は、第2次世界大戦中の1944年6月6日、連合軍がナチスドイツに占領されていたフランスのノルマンディー地方に上陸したもので、戦況の転換点となった。
現地時間の午後には、アメリカのバイデン大統領をはじめ多くの首脳が参加して記念式典が行われる予定で、ウクライナのゼレンスキー大統領も参加する。
