ネコの尿に分岐鎖（ぶんきさ）脂肪酸という物質が13種類あり、この分岐鎖脂肪酸の組み合わせの比率によって一匹一匹の尿のにおいが異なることがわかった。
ネコが口を半開きにして見せる「フレーメン」という表情を引き起こす要因に、分岐鎖脂肪酸が関わっていることが世界初で明らかになった。
