アメリカ・テキサス州のバイオテクノロジー企業が4月7日、約1万2000年前に絶滅したとされるオオカミ、ダイアウルフの子どもを誕生させることに成功したと発表した。
ダイアウルフはかつて北米に実在していたイヌ科動物で現存するオオカミより大きな頭蓋骨や歯を持ち、アメリカ、メキシコなどで化石が発見されている。
ゲノム解析の過程で、ダイアウルフが白くて長い毛を持っていたことが分かり、動画には、幼い彼らが人間にミルクを与えられたり、駆け回ったり、遠吠えをしたりする様子などが映っている。
