石川県警は犯人の追跡や行方不明者の捜索などに力を発揮してもらおうとシェパードやラブラドルレトリバーなど警察犬21匹を委嘱した。
2023年、警察犬が出動した85回のうち83回が行方不明者の捜索で、実際に発見につながったケースが2件あった。
また、小型犬のミニチュアシュナウザー1匹が新たに委嘱され、大型犬では難しい狭い現場での捜索活動などの活躍が望まれている。
