JR九州の蒸気機関車SL人吉が100歳を迎え、八代駅で誕生日イベントが行われた。
同機関車は何度か引退したが復活し、現在は熊本と鳥栖間を日本最古の営業用蒸気機関車として走っている。
100周年を迎えた18日は熊本八代間を走り、JR九州の社長があいさつ、バースデーケーキを披露した。
