赤穂事件
赤穂事件は、二つの事件を指します。
つまり18世紀初頭に、江戸城・松之大廊下で、吉良義央に斬りつけたとして、播磨赤穂藩藩主の浅野長矩が切腹に処せられた事件と、さらにその後、亡き主君の浅野長矩に代わり、家臣の大石良雄以下47人が本所の吉良邸に討ち入り、吉良義央らを討った事件です。
1人は逃亡しましたが、吉良を打ち取った残る46人は首を主君の眠る泉岳寺迄10キロを歩き主君に首を捧げました。
仇討ちは世間の評判を呼びましたが、将軍は悩んだ末46人に切腹を命じました。彼らの遺骸は、主君と同じ泉岳寺に埋葬されました。
その後この事件は数多く読み物や台本になりました。特に1748年初演された「仮名手本忠臣蔵」という作品は文楽と歌舞伎の人気演目で今でもよく演じられています。
兵庫県赤穂市や京都の山科、東京の泉岳寺では12月14日に義士祭が行われ、47人の武士のパレードが見られます。
