水墨画
水墨画は、主に東アジアの国々で描かれる、墨の色一色で描かれた絵画のことです。
水墨画は3つの大きな特徴があります。1つ目の特徴は対象物を決して写実的・説明的に細密に描かないことです。2つ目の特徴は余白が効果的に用いられることです。3つ目の特徴は対象物を墨の濃淡、にじみ、ぼかし、グラデーション、紙の白さに純化して描かれていることです。
水墨画で描かれた黒と白のモノトーンの世界は、わび・さびなどの渋さ・質素さを好む文化や茶道、華道にみられる人をもてなし、心を落ち着つかさせることを愛する文化に通じており、現代でも多くの日本人を引き付けます。
日本の歴史上有名な水墨画家は雪舟、長谷川等伯、狩野探幽、与謝蕪村、富岡鉄斎です。現代では藤井湧泉、長坂真護、西元祐貴等が活躍しています。
水墨画は各地の美術館や禅寺で見られます。動画で水墨画の紹介や描き方も英語字幕で見られます。
