「ユース・アメリカ・グランプリ」がニューヨークで開かれ、「クラシック」の部門で、札幌市の中学生、山田優七さんが女子の1位に選ばれた。
「ユース・アメリカ・グランプリ」は、スイスの「ローザンヌ国際バレエコンクール」と並び、バレエの若手の登竜門の1つとされている。
山田さんは「周りの人に支えられ、感謝の気持ちでいっぱいです。将来は、みんなを笑顔にできるすてきなバレエダンサーになりたい」と話していた。
