天文学者らは「ＷＡＳＰ－１９３ｂ」と名付けられた木星の約１．５倍の大きさにもかかわらず、これまでに発見された惑星の中で２番目に軽い珍しい惑星を新たに発見した。
マサチューセッツ工科大学の研究者はニュースリリースで「この惑星が綿菓子に近いのは、どちらも固体ではなく軽い気体でできているからだ。この惑星は基本的にものすごくふわふわしている」と述べた。
研究者は、木星よりはるかに大きいにもかかわらず、質量は木星のわずか１４％であるＷＡＳＰ－１９３ｂはこのような膨れた惑星の形成について特に有益な手がかりを提供してくれると語る。
