ロスアンゼルスで行われたエミー賞の授賞式で、真田広之さんがプロデュースと主演を務めたドラマシリーズ「SHOGUN 将軍」がドラマ部門の作品賞を受賞した。
また真田さん自身も主演男優賞を受賞し、その他主演女優賞、監督賞等も受賞し、ひとつのシーズンの作品としてエミー賞で最多の18の受賞記録を打ちたてた。
作品賞の受賞スピーチで真田さんは「時代劇を継承して支えてきてくださったすべての方々、監督や諸先生方に心より御礼申し上げます。」と述べた。
