サザビーズで画家グスタフ・クリムトの代表作「エリザベート・レーデラーの肖像」が2億3640万ドル（日本円で約367億円）で落札され、現代美術として史上最高額の落札価格となった。
この肖像画は、クリムトのパトロンの娘を描いた晩年の作で、第2次世界大戦中に他の作品と離されて保管されていたため、オーストリアのインメンドルフ城で起きた火災から免れた。
この絵画は、化粧品会社の名誉会長故レナード・ローダーさんのコレクションで、史上最高額にオークション会場からどよめきと拍手が起きた。
