秋田県湯沢市で、厳しい気象条件などを乗り越えて収穫されたリンゴ、いわゆる落ちないりんごが受験生に贈られた。
これらのりんごはりんご台風と呼ばれる1991年の台風19号の際、地面に落ちずに収穫の時期を迎えたことから、縁起物として毎年受験生に贈られている。
受験生たちは記録的猛暑やクマの食害などの影響を受けず、大きく成長した落ちないりんごを手に受験、頑張るぞと意気込んだ。
