米沢市の笹野観音で17日、山伏らが護摩壇の残り火の上を歩いて五穀豊穣や無病息災などを祈願する十七堂祭が開かれた。
裸足で火の上を歩く火渡しは邪気を払う儀式で、杉の葉に点火し火がおさまった頃山伏が渡り歩き、御札を手にした参拝者が続いた。
酒井龍晃住職は人はそれぞれ願いや苦しみを持っているので火で身を清め、自信を持って一年を過ごしてほしいと語った。
