川柳
川柳とは、和歌にルーツを持つ5・7・5で詠む文芸です。
江戸時代に、和歌の上の句だけで意味が伝わる句を集めた句集が刊行されました。柳多留に掲載する句を選んだ柄井川柳の名が、川柳の名前の由来となっています。
俳句と川柳とは同じ5・7・5で詠みますが、次の3つの形式的な違いがあります。
第一に、俳句は自然や動物、情景を詩の題材とする一方、川柳は身近な人や物を題材とします。第二に、川柳で使う言葉は、主に普段話している言葉という特徴があります。一方俳句は書き言葉や昔の言葉を使うことが多いです。第三に、俳句で必要な季語や修辞は、川柳に必要ありません。
現在川柳はサラリーマン川柳や高齢者川柳など、俳句以上に広く日本人に愛される文芸となっています。
現代川柳やサラリーマン川柳を紹介した英語の本も売っていて読むことが出来ます。
ユーチューブ動画では川柳の作り方も英語で紹介されています。英語で川柳を作って日本のユーモラスな文芸を体験してはどうでしょう。
