シンガポールで行われたチェス世界選手権の決勝で、インドのグケシュ・ドマラジュさん（１８）が中国の丁立人さんを破り、史上最年少のクラシカルチェス世界王者に輝いた。
14番勝負の最終戦で勝利が確認されると、グケシュさんは勝利の高揚感からか涙を流し、前回王者の丁さんは信じられないという様子で座って頭を抱えるばかりだった。
１８人目、インド人としては２人目の世界王者になったグケシュさんの１８歳という年齢はロシアの伝説、ガルリ・カスパロフさんが１９８５年に初の世界タイトルを獲得した年齢よりも４歳若い。
