このレースは世界一危険なレースでバカバカしいレースでもあり、参加者は急斜面を転がり落ちるチーズを追いかけて、約１８０メートルの草地をダッシュする。
舞台は英イングランド南西部のブロックワース村にあるクーパーズヒルでチーズ転がし競争がいつ始まったのか、正確なことは不明だが、最も古い記録が残るのは１８２６年だった。
負傷の続出は必至で、２０２３年に女子の部を制したデラニー・アービングさんの場合、ゴール直前で意識を失い、優勝を知ったのは医療用テントの中だった。
