2025年のノーベル賞が発表され、大阪大学の坂口志文特任教授、メアリー・E・ブランコウ氏、フレッド・ラムズデル氏ら3人が選ばれた。
選考委員会は授賞の理由について、「坂口氏は免疫システムがより複雑であることを示し、それまで知られていなかった免疫細胞を発見した」と評価する。
一方、ラムズデル氏は「ノーベル賞を受賞するとは全く思っていなかった」と話し携帯電話を機内モードにしてハイキングをして、発表10時間後に受賞を知った。
