書初め
書初めとは、日本の年中行事の一つで、新年になって初めて毛筆で書道をすることです。
書初めは通常1月2日から15日の間までに行います。
書初めは元々宮中行事でしたが、江戸時代に寺子屋という子供の教育機関によって庶民にも広がりました。
昔から1月2日は「事始め」という仕事を始める日でした。書道もこの日に行えば長続きし上達するという言い伝えがあり、多くの人がこの日に書初めをします。
また、15日に神社やお寺で行われるどんど焼きで正月飾りなどと一緒に書初めで書いたものを燃やします。その炎が高く上がれば上がるほど字が上達するともいわれています。
書初めで多くの人が好きな二字熟語や四字熟語を書きます。
