相撲
相撲は、土俵の上で力士が組み合って戦う形を取る日本古来の武芸です。
相撲は農耕民族である日本人が、豊作に感謝し、五穀豊穰を祈願する神事から生まれたものといわれています。
戦国時代より登場した行司、江戸時代から続いている土俵入り、化粧廻しなど相撲には歴史・文化・神事・競技など様々な側面があります。
競技の内容は俵で円形に築いた土俵の中で、裸に回しを締め、素手で、2人が倒し合いや出し合いをして勝敗を争います。地面に足の裏以外の身体がついたり、土俵から身体が出たりすれば負けになります。
現在の相撲協会のホームページは英語でも見られます。大相撲のチケットも英語で販売するサイトもあります。大相撲観戦ツアーや朝稽古観戦ツアーもあります。
両国に行けば相撲博物館で英語のパンフレットも買えますし、名物の焼き鳥や力士のクッキーやタオルなどお土産も買えます。街中で力士に会えるかもしれません。
