約400年前の慶長遣欧使節団の木造船「サン・ファン・バウティスタ号」の復元船の「２代目」が完成し、５月３１日、報道陣に公開された。
サン・ファン・バウティスタ号は、伊達政宗の命を受けた支倉常長などを乗せ、太平洋を横断した木造船で、最初の復元船は１９９３年に原寸大で造らした。
後継船は全長およそ１４メートルで、解体された復元船の４分の１の大きさで、海に向かって指をさす支倉常長の姿も４分の１の大きさで再現した。
