東京都調布市の深大寺で、50年に1度のみ拝観できる秘仏「元三大師像」が大修理完了記念として大開帳が始まる。

深大寺によると、高さ２メートルのこの座像は鎌倉時代に作られ、存命人物の肖像画としては日本最大だという。

他に類を見ない大きさのこの像は、鎌倉時代、蒙古襲来の時幕府が、異国退散を祈願して制作したのではないかと伝わるという。
