NASAは、火星探査車が火星の岩をX線などを使って分析した結果、微生物が存在した可能性を示す痕跡を発見したと発表した。
去年7月、火星のクレーターで、火星探査車がかつて水が存在したと考えられる場所を調査していたところ、岩に数ミリほどの斑点があるのを見つけた。
斑点の化合物は、地球上では、有機物を栄養として活動する微生物が生成するケースがあることから、火星でも微生物が存在した可能性があるという。
