サウジアラビアのアブドラ王立科学技術大学は、安価で入手しやすい材料と重力で、空気から水を収集する冷却システム開発に成功したと発表した。
実用的な量の水を収集するためには電力が必要だったが、新システムは電力不要とすることで、環境負荷の少ないシステムになる可能性がある。
サウジアラビア・トゥワールで、屋外条件下で年六回試験を実施したところ、新システムは従来のほぼ2倍の1時間当たり21g/m2の受動的な集水量を達成した。
