鉄砲伝来
鉄砲伝来とは、16世紀半ばに日本の種子島に伝来した事件の事です。現物の火縄銃のほか、製造技術や射撃法なども伝わりました。
島主の種子島時堯はポルトガルの商人が実演した火縄銃2挺を買い求め、家臣に火薬の調合を学ばせました。銃を複製するべく刀鍛冶を集め、新たに数十挺を作りました。
当時伝わった銃は火縄銃で、銃口から弾丸と火薬を入れ、火のついた縄で火薬に火をつけ弾丸を飛ばすものでした。滋賀や和歌山、堺などで銃は量産され、日本の戦いなどに大きく変化をもたらしました。
それまでは騎馬隊中心の戦法でしたが、織田信長の鉄砲隊が武田の騎馬隊を破って以来、剣などの能力を持たない足軽という者たちが活躍するようになりました。
鉄砲伝来は城を山城から銃弾の落ちにくい平城にかえました。また鎧も銃がどこにあたるかわからないので軽量かつ全身になりました。
種子島で銃の博物館に行くのもいいかもしれません。
