応仁の乱
応仁の乱は、室町時代中期の1467年に発生し、1477年までの約11年に及んで継続した内乱です。
8代将軍足利義政には長らく後継ぎが出来ず、弟の義視を養子にします。ところがそののち義尚が生まれたので次期将軍を誰にするかの争いが生じました。
義尚には後見人として細川勝元が付きました。義視には後見人として隆元の義理の父である山名宗全がつきました。
将軍家に加え、畠山氏、斯波氏も家督争いがおこりました。
そのため細川勝元率いる東軍と山名宗全率いる西軍の間で京都を舞台に内戦になり、京都は焼け野原になりました。
この戦の結果、室町幕府は影響力を失い、下剋上の時代に移り200年以上続く戦国大名の時代に変っていきます。
京都には相国寺や上御霊神社等応仁の乱ゆかりの地があります。
また、山口県山口市は逆に応仁の乱を避けた公家や僧が移り住み、西の京といわれた史跡が残ります。
