明治維新
明治維新とは幕末の動乱から明治時代初期までの近代化改革の事です。
このため幕藩体制が崩壊し、日本は天皇を中心とする近代的な中央集権国家に変りました。
明治維新の発端は、1853年アメリカの軍艦が浦賀にやってきて司令官のペリーが日本に開国を求めた事です。
そのため日本の国論は開国論と鎖国論とに二分され、幕府の地位も揺らぎました。
1867年徳川慶喜は大政を朝廷に奉還を行いました。そうしても旧幕府側が依然新政府でも中心的な役割を果たせると彼は考えたからです。
しかし明治天皇が王政復古の大号令を出しました。そして薩摩藩や長州藩等が、幕府等の地位を否定した新政府の樹立を目指します。
これに対して幕府軍は戦争を挑みましたが近代兵器に勝る政府軍に負け続け、江戸城も無血開放し幕府の支配は終わりました。
明治維新に関するアーネスト・サトーさんの本を読むのもいいかもしれません。
