鎖国
「鎖国」とは、江戸幕府が、キリスト教国の人の来航、及び日本人の東南アジア方面への出入国を禁止し、貿易を制限した対外政策であり、ならびに、そこから生まれた日本の孤立状態の事です。
1639年のポルトガル船入港禁止から、1854年の日米和親条約締結までの200年余りの期間を「鎖国」とよびます。
1637年に起きたキリスト教徒による反乱に脅威を感じた徳川幕府はカトリック教国の入国を禁止したいと考えました。
ヨーロッパ大陸ではプロテスタント教国であるオランダのみが貿易を許され、長崎の出島にのみオランダ人は居留を許されました。出島の一部は現在復元され見ることが出来ます。
この時代は平和な時代が続き、歌舞伎や浮世絵など、日本独特の文化が生まれました。
一方で蘭学を学ぶものはいましたが、産業革命がおこった欧米と技術の点では遅れが生じました。
1853年産業革命で出来た蒸気機関で動くアメリカの黒船が日本を鎖国の終わりに向かわせました。
