西南戦争
西南戦争は、1877年に現在の熊本県や鹿児島県等において西郷隆盛を盟主にして起こった士族による最後の武力反乱です。
政府が中央集権を目指す中、特権を奪われた武士が武士達が多くいました。
その武士の不満をそらすためにも武力で韓国の開国をさせようと西郷隆盛は主張し、大久保利通等に反対されました。
そのため西郷は中央政府を離れ鹿児島で士族の為に学校を作りました。
西郷と士族の学校を脅威と見た政府は、鹿児島にあった武器弾薬を移したり、西郷暗殺を試みました。このため士族たちは怒りを爆発させ、内戦へと向かいました。
西南戦争の最大の戦いは熊本市内の田原坂です。そちらを政府軍に突破された薩摩軍は鹿児島の城山に戻り、西郷は自害して内戦は終わりました。
西南戦争をきっかけに日本は中央集権化し、軍隊も近代化が加速しました。
熊本に行って戦った人たちを偲びつつ田原坂を歩かれてもいいかもしれません。
