兵庫県香美町では、カニの殻で作った肥料で栽培するブランド米「かにのほほえみ」の田植えがゴールデンウイーク前から始まっている。
かにのほほえみは、カニの殻を細かく砕いた肥料で育てられるコシヒカリで、殻に含まれるキチン質の影響で甘みが強く、粘りのある米になるそうだ。
田植えは５月２０日ごろまで行われ、稲刈りは９月上旬で、700袋のかにのほほえみの出荷を見込んでいるということだ。
