根付
根付とは、主に日本の江戸時代に使われた留め具です。
和装にはポケットがなく、根付は小物などを持ち歩く際に使われてきました。 巾着や印籠箱などの紐に取り付け、帯の下から上へに挟み込み 根付を帯の上から顔を出させることで 巾着などが落ちないような仕掛けとなっています。
根付が広まったのは豊臣秀吉と徳川家康という天下人のおかげです。家康の時代がきて、健康オタクだった家康は薬を常備する印籠を持ち歩くことを諸大名に勧めました。その印籠を服に留めるための根付として当初使われたのが糸印という銅製の印鑑でした。その糸印は秀吉が収集していたのに倣って、当時大名たちも多く持っていました。
現代人の服装は洋服に変わり需要は減りましたが、その美しさと高い技術力から海外では日本のアートとして 浮世絵などと並び、人気で評価も高く「netsuke」として親しまれています。
京都には根付の美術館もありホームページも英語で見られます。東京には専門の古美術商もあります。どうぞそういうところに行ったり、空港などの免税店で根付をお土産に買って下さい。
