将棋の第81期名人戦七番勝負第5局が長野県高山村の藤井荘で指され、藤井聡太竜王が渡辺明名人に勝利した。
藤井竜王は、谷川浩司さんが保持していた21歳2カ月の記録を更新し、20歳10カ月での最年少名人となり、二人目の7冠にもなった。
羽生九段が七冠制覇した1996年とは違い、現在は全8タイトルに増えているので藤井竜王が残る「王座」を獲得した場合は、史上初の八冠王が誕生することになる。
