回転寿司
回転寿司とは、小皿に盛った各種の寿司を、客席沿いを回るコンベアに載せて供する寿司店です。客は目の前を通る寿司を自由に選び取って食事します。
価格は全皿均一価格の店もありますが、通常皿の色柄によって何種類かに分かれていて、食後に会計希望と伝えれば、店員が皿の枚数を数え精算します。
大阪の「元祖 廻る元禄寿司」が1958年、初めて回転寿司を誕生させました。お皿に乗ったお寿司を置くというアイデアは、大阪にあるビール工場で使われているベルトコンベアをヒントに生まれました。
その後お皿のICチップで一定時間回ったお寿司を回収するシステムを作ったり、座席の前のタッチパネルで好きなネタを注文できるようにしたりする等、回転寿司店はコストを抑えながら顧客満足度を高める工夫をしながら日本中に親しまれてきました。
最近は外国語対応の回転寿司店も増えてきました。外国人に人気の寿司は一位から順にサーモン、マグロ、エビ、寿司ロール、ホタテです。寿司だけでなく、から揚げやラーメン、デザートなどデザートなど他のメニューも豊富です。
