和室
和室とは、日本の伝統的な様式の部屋のことです。
和室は畳以外にも和室を構成する要素は多いです。床の間は掛け軸や花・置物などを飾るスペースです。長押は柱と柱の間に取り付けた横木です。襖や障子は引き戸で部屋を仕切る紙製の戸です。鴨居と敷居は襖や障子をはめ込むため溝の付いた横木です。欄干は鴨居や長押の上に儲けられた通風や採光の為の装飾です。
和室には、実はさまざまなメリットがあります。寝転んだり畳の匂いでリラックスできます。畳や和紙や漆喰など、和室に使われることの多い素材は調湿機能を持っています。畳にはクッション性があるため防音効果があってケガもしにくいです。また和室は居間、食事場所、寝室などと多目的に使えます。このため日本に長く住む外国人にも好評です。
