すだれ
すだれは、竹や葦などを編んで部屋の仕切りあるいは日よけのために吊り下げて用いるものです。特にヨシを素材として編まれたものをよしずといいます。
万葉集にすだれの出て来る短歌があり、すだれの歴史は少なくとも奈良時代まで遡ります。御簾というすだれは位の高い人を囲い区別するためにも使われていました。
垂らして用いるものをすだれ、立てかけるものを立て簾と呼びます。特によしずは夏季を中心に軒先などに立て掛けて使用されます。
すだれは日よけや虫よけ、外から見えないようにするための目隠しなどの目的で使われます。よしずは窓全体を覆うことができ、水をかけて気化熱で冷却効果を高めることも可能です。すだれは昔から続くエコの知恵といえます。
すだれは外国人にも人気でよく輸入されています。外からは中の様子が見られないけれど中からは外が見えます。太陽光が弱められ、気軽に日本のクールな雰囲気が味わえます。軽量で巻き上げられるので高さの調節もしやすいです。
