北海道芦別市で、1973年に市内の子どもたちが埋めたタイムカプセルが11日、半世紀ぶりに開封された。
タイムカプセルが埋められた1973年の芦別市の当時の人口は、現在の3.5倍にあたる3万9000人あまりで夏のお祭りもにぎわいを見せ、炭鉱の町として栄えていた。
50年前の式典に参加した当時6歳の人達もセレモニーに参加し、カプセルの中には、炭鉱で使われていたガスマスクなども入っていた。
