スペインの「コウモリの洞窟」で19世紀に発見された草を編んだサンダルが、約6000年前のもので、欧州で最古の靴だと、最新の研究で明らかになった。

研究では、新たな年代測定技術が使われた結果、これまで推定されていたより約2000年古いものだと判明し、 中には、9000年前に作られたとみられるものもあったという。

靴等が見つかったスペインのアンダルシア地方にあるこの洞窟に近代以降に人が最初に訪れたのは1831年で、土地の所有者が、肥料としてコウモリのフンを集めに来たのが最初だという。
