ある科学者グループがAIを使い、1986年から2022年の間にケニアで録音された野生のアフリカゾウの鳴き声を分析し、『ネイチャー・エコロジー・アンド・エボルーション（Nature Ecology and Evolution）』で発表した。
注目したのは「ゴロゴロ鳴る音」とも言えるタイプのコミュニケーションで、ゾウが互いに特有の名前のような鳴き声で呼び合う証拠を、科学者らは見付けた。
娘象の鳴き声の動画の音声に母象が返事をするなど、ゾウはこれまで我々が理解してきたよりも優れた抽象的思考能力を持っている可能性を示した。
