奈良県立医科大学は、保存期限が切れた赤血球製剤のヘモグロビンを使って輸血用の血液を人工的に作ることに成功したと発表した。
開発した酒井教授は「海外を見渡しても、現在使えるものはまずない。人類の健康福祉に貢献できるのではないか」と語った。
人工赤血球は血液型を問わずに投与でき、赤血球の保管期限が通常4週間に対して、常温で2年間保管出来る。
