モンゴル出身のオチルサイハンが「旭富士」のしこ名で前相撲に臨み、初土俵を踏み、同じくモンゴル出身の天昇山を危なげなく寄り切り、白星デビューを飾った。
旭富士は旭丘高を卒業後入門したが１部屋１人の外国出身力士枠の兼ね合いでデビューまで約４年半を要した。
史上最強の研修生”と注目されていた彼のしこ名は入門時の師匠で、第６３代横綱・旭富士から継承した。
