パリで100年ぶり3回目となるオリンピックの開会式は26日、夏のオリンピックでは初めてスタジアム外のセーヌ川沿いで行われた。
選手たちを乗せた船は「オステルリッツ橋」を出発し、ノートルダム大聖堂やルーブル美術館の前を通過して、エッフェル塔の足下にある「イエナ橋」まで進んだ。
聖火は、五輪柔道男子で連覇したテディ・リネールさん、五輪陸上女子400メートルで連覇しマリージョゼ・ペレクさんの2人によって点灯された。
