関東大震災から100年
2023年9月1日は関東大震災が起こってちょうど100年です。
関東大震災は1923年9月1日の午前11時58分に発生しました。帝都を襲った大地震によって、死者・行方不明者が10万人を超える未曽有の大災害となりました。
内閣府によると、大地震の規模はマグニチュード7.9です。
首都圏などが、現在の震度7や6強に相当する激しい揺れに襲われ、住宅の倒壊、火災、土砂災害が起こり、沿岸部には津波も押し寄せました。東京や神奈川を中心に11万棟近くの住宅が全壊、火災による焼失建物は21万2000棟を上回り、明治以降の日本では最大の災害となりました。
地震そのものの被害だけでなく、「災害時のデマ」も問題となりました。朝鮮人が武装したり放火したりするなどといった根拠の無いうわさを背景に、各地で惨い事件が多発したとされています。
その後、帝都復興計画などから東京や横浜市では土地区画の整理や河川の改修や、昭和通りなど舗装された幹線道路の新設など復興も進みました。
