福岡市で海水から真水を作る時に生じる濃縮海水を捨てずに活用して発電する日本で初めての試みが始まることになった。
渇水に苦しんできた福岡都市圏では２００５年から海水から真水を取り出す海水淡水化センター「まみずピア」を稼働させている。
そこからでた濃縮海水で浸透圧発電した場合、発電量は一般家庭３００戸分の安定した電源になる。
