水田の守り神が倒された年にしか開催されないという一風変わった祭りに、地元住民たちが五穀豊穣や無病息災などを願い、１７年ぶりに参加した。

南九州で「田の神さあ」とも呼ばれるこの石像は、水田の近くに祭られており、「田の神起こし」は、倒れた石像を起こすというものだ。

久々に復活した伝統の「田の神起こし」、石像を誰が倒したのかは分からないままだが、次の開催は果たしていつになるだろうか？
