インドで見つかった4700年前の化石のヘビは体長が推定11〜15メートルでティラノサウルス・レックスを上回る巨大なヘビの新種だったことがわかった。
新たに確認された新種は、これまでに生息したあらゆるヘビのなかでも最大級で、発見されたインドのヒンドゥー教の神話上のヘビの王にちなんで「ヴァースキ・インディクス（Vasuki Indicus）」と名づけられた。
発掘した研究者達によればヴァースキはアナコンダやニシキヘビのような動きの遅い待ち伏せ型の捕食者で、獲物を締め上げて仕留めていたのではないかと推測されている。
